God Forgives You! Part II

There is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1)

Adam and Even displayed the exact human response to sin in the Garden of Eden back in the book of Genesis. God told Adam and Eve that they can eat from any of the trees but not from the tree in the middle of the garden (Genesis 3:3). Rather than walk in obedience, they both caved in to the trick of the serpent. The serpent did not and will not come to play games. He has an agenda. His plan is to deceive and to destroy (John 10:10), and after he is finished, he will hide and will leave you in your mess. That is why it is so important to know who God is but to also know who the enemy is because that is exactly how he works. He makes everything that God told us no to very sweet and enticing. And just like Adam, we end up falling victim to what we should have never done. After we fall, we run away from God rather than towards Him. “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden,” (Genesis 3:8). That is the mistake mankind continues to make. The reason why I believe Adam hid is because of the guilt and shame that he felt due to condemnation.

The enemy condemns us while God convicts us after our falling. The way I like to differentiate the two is by this: Condemnation puts weight on us. It causes us to feel embarrassed, shameful, heavy, and guilty about our wrongdoings. It makes us feel as if we are chained up in bondage with no way of escape. Conviction, on the other hand, is done in a loving, non harsh manner. It allows us to see how our actions were wrong and reveals to us a better way to navigate life so that we don’t repeat the same mistakes. Conviction allows forgiveness, healing, and freedom to take place.

God called Adam not by his sin but by His name and He is doing the same for you. God already knows what you are going to do before you do it and what makes Him so awesome is that His love for you is unconditional. It is not based on anything that you did or did not do. He loved you before you sinned, while you were sinning, and He still loves you after. God isn’t so focused on your mistakes, failures, and shortcomings as we tend to be towards ourselves. God more so cares about your heart. His main goal is to have a relationship with you. Don’t allow your actions to prevent you from pursuing God.

The next time you mess up, don’t hide. Expose your mistake, repent, and walk away knowing that you are forgiven. God is bigger than any human and any devil. So if He forgives you, nothing and no one can revoke that!
