Change Your Speech And Thoughts

Are you able to change your speech and your thoughts? If I sat down with you right now in this very moment, can I ask you what thoughts frequently play in your mind? Are your thoughts centered around fear? Do feelings of anxiety and depression seem to weigh you down? Are your thoughts negative and destructive? Do you constantly focus on what you do not have or cannot do? What about your speech? Has someone ever told you that you are always so negative? Or that you never see how blessed you are? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, can I share with you the honest truth? If your answer is yes, it simply means that your mind is in bondage, and you do not even realize it. Sometimes we go around thinking that this is just the way I am. I know no different. I saw no different. I have been like this my entire life. Although this may be true for you, there is someone who loves you so much that wants to reveal to you a new way of thinking. Old chains are breakable when you receive Jesus Christ into your heart. How so? The Word of God states that wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). Because the Spirit of the Lord lives inside of you, that means that you are free. You were always free. You just have not come into agreement with that. Yet.

A great way to free your mind from damaging, destructive, and negative thoughts is by being intentional on what you allow to enter in. What/who are you listening to? What/who are you watching? You are the author of your thoughts and the words that come out of your mouth. You can constantly replay the bad things that happened to you throughout your life, talk about all that you do not have, and look at what is going wrong in your life, or you can make a decision today to start freeing your mind and changing your speech little by little by being intentional. For example, if you are by yourself, instead of looking at it as a negative thing, flip it. Thank God that you have this season to yourself to practice self-care, heal, and draw closer to Him. If you are jobless, God knows. Just stop complaining about it and thank Him that He is still providing for you. He must be if you are reading this! If you are not where you thought you would be in your life right now, see it as an opportunity God is giving you to explore other things, and to learn as much as possible. Did an unexpected change happen in your life? Go with the flow. You are right where you need to be so breathe and relax. God’s got you.

Feast on positive thoughts so that positive words can flow out of your mouth. Think of sorting out your thoughts like a stack of paper. When your boss gives you a stack of important documents, are you 1) going to shove all of the papers in your desk, hoping to get to it another day, or 2) are you going to take a moment, and go through the papers to see what you need and do not need so that you can be at peace about it? If you are someone like me that does not like clutter and embrace organization, I think that you will choose the latter. This scenario is just like the mind. When a whole bunch of thoughts come, are you just going to take it all in and allow it to take root, or are you going to stop for a moment, and shift through your thoughts? You decide. You get to determine which thoughts get to stay and which thoughts must leave. The thoughts that must leave should be the ones that bring you fear, anxiety, depression, torment you in your spirit, or allow negative destructive words to come out of your mouth. The thoughts that should stay are the ones that bring about peace, happiness, and joy. These thoughts are the good ones that allow you to focus on how blessed you truly are, and the blessings that are happening in this season of your life. You choose. Make a decision today to be intentional about what you allow to enter into your mind. Make a decision to be still at moments throughout the day so that you can sort out your thoughts. We live in a fast pace society, but please do not neglect you. Be the gatekeeper of you. Guard your thoughts. Be mindful of the words that you speak. Just as you guard your prized possessions, start doing the same for your thoughts and your words. You will see a difference once you start doing so.

On this journey on freedom, do not forget to ask the Holy Spirit for help. You may feel overwhelmed because you have to interrupt years of learned behavior, and you are trying to get free in your own strength which will never ever work. God needs to know that you need His help, His guidance, and His strength. He needs to know that you want to change. I am on this journey with you with experiencing freedom in my mind and in my speech. I have good days where I feel like I am making great progress and then I have bad days when I slip greatly. I am learning that that is okay. I just have to make a decision to get back up and continue working at it. You should too. This time next year, we will be able to look back and see the transformation. I definitely cannot wait to see!
