Live Your Best Life: Year 30
On Wednesday, February 8th, 1995 at 11:45pm, 12 minutes after my twin sister was delivered, I finally came into this world, and two Saturdays ago, I officially turned 30! The days leading up to my 30th birthday, on a college-ruled loose leaf paper, I wrote down a list of all the things I’ve accomplished in my 20s. From moving to a new state, to obtaining 2 degrees onto my 3rd, starting my own business (SuppliedByAli Stationery Line) and a ministry (SingleChronicles7 LLC), getting involved in a dance school as an extracurricular activity (Contemporary, Afro-Caribbean, and Hip Hop), becoming a Step/Dance Team coach, starting my career as a school psychologist and now 6 years in, developing an active social life, and being a first ever dog mom to my labradoodle, Blitzen. I traveled to Canada by myself for a business trip and to the Dominican Republic for an annual sisters’ trip. I cut off all my hair and re-loc’d my hair…Believe it or not, the list was 2 ½ pages long!
My 20s were filled with so many ups as well as downs. However, my focus entering year 30 was to stay positive and reflect on all the good things that happened in my life rather than the things that did not happen. My desire was to enter year 30 with a heart of gratitude. I know that the very thing that I desired (being in a relationship) did not happen and that is okay. Not because I was not ready but because God wanted me to live a full life that could only be lived as a single. I can look back and see that God really did His thing for me from 20-29 years of age. I may not have gotten every single thing but I was blessed with more than enough.
No matter how old you are or what stage of life you are in (single, married, divorced, or widowed), it is important that you do things for you and live life to the fullest now. Don’t wait around for things to fall into place before you start living. Even the smallest things such as taking yourself to the nail salon every month as a part of your self-care routine or being involved in a small group at church is more than enough. Indeed there are things that I am still waiting on from God. There are prayers that have yet to be answered. However, for me to remain hopeful, I have to keep going. The things that are within my reach to do, I ought to do them. And the same for you. Your situation may be filled with nothing but tears and sadness, but you have the choice today to turn it around. Make each day count. Write out the things that you want to do and accomplish for yourself and then work at it.
Your life is what you make it so make it into something worth remembering!
