Seeking God’s Will for My Life

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand (Psalm 37:23-24).

Have you ever been in a place in your life where you did not know where to go or which direction to walk? If you put your hand up, then we are more alike than I thought. If you are like me, then you must have had [and still do] so many questions, fears, and doubts.

When I get to this place of frustration, feeling lost, discouraged, unmotivated, and sometimes confused with life, I have to step back and remind myself of who is in charge. Is it me or is it God? I want God’s Will to prevail in my life. There are things that I want but what does God want? We can desire so many things but God may have different plans. His Word says to seek Him first (Matthew 6:33). Not our bank account. Not our friend. Not our family. Not our spouse. Not our boss. Not the news nor politics but Him first. When we do so, it is a promise that these things will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33). When God is first, He will show us the way in which we should walk. Maybe the reason why we have no idea the step to take is because we are sharing and oversharing our plans and goals to others when we should have brought it to God first and laid it at His feet.

I am learning to give every [bothering] thought to God even if I have to give it to Him 1,000 times per day. As long as I am thinking it, I have to release it so that I am able to take it one day at a time, solely focusing on the present. Focusing too much ahead creates anxiety and tremendous worry, and that alone steals the joy of each day. God knows our end from our beginning (Isaiah 46:10). He knows that amount of hair that is on our head (Luke 12:7). He is all-knowing (Psalm 139). Focusing on the here and now forces peace to flood the atmosphere because you know that God is in control.

My desire is to live to please God in all that I do. I have no idea where I will be this time next year. Absolutely none. But I am tired of trying to figure it out. It is literally stressing me out! If God is truly first in my life, then I have to show Him by relaxing and enjoying the process as He works it all out on my behalf (Romans 8:28). This is where my faith has to be activated. Having faith means trusting in God’s timing and not trying to make things happen on your own. Even though I may not see it nor feel it, I just have to believe that God is still working and He hasn’t stopped.

I want you to know that God will work it out for you. He is working it out for you. Surrender everything that is on your mind to Him. Let Him have His way in your life. God sees what you do not see, and because of that, you cannot lean on your own understanding. Scripture tells us to not lean on our own understanding but to trust God. When we do so, He will make our paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Keynote

Lately, I have been utilizing My Vision Book. Rather than keep all that is weighing heavily on me inside, I write it down. I talk to God as I do. When I am done, I pray over it. Not for these things to happen but for God to do as He sees fit for my life whether it is what I desire or not. And then, I close the book, put it away, and walk away. That is my act of surrender. I can promise you that if you do the same, it will help you feel so much lighter because it is you casting your everything unto Him (1 Peter 5:7).

Let go and let God have His way in your life. When you do so, confusion will leave and clarity will begin to take root. Each step will be easier to take because you’re not leading yourself anymore. And this is the beauty of following Christ. You do not need to have it all figured out. All you need is TRUST. When your trust becomes shaky, a simple prayer of, “God, help my unbelief,” is all you need.
